Secretary of Commerce Sixto K. Igisomar
CNMI Governor Benigno R. Fitial appointed Sixto K. Igisomar to serve as the Secretary for the Department of Commerce. Secretary Igisomar was confirmed by the 17th Senate (CNMI Legislature), and sworn into office on January 25, 2012. Implicit in his duties as the Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Igisomar automatically assumed the positions of the Insurance Commissioner and the Banking Director for the CNMI.
In addition to his current duties, Secretary Igisomar also heads the Board of Trustees for the Northern Mariana Islands Retirement Fund, a position he has held since 2009. He has also served as Chairman for various government entities and non-profit organizations: Chairman for the Boards of the Commonwealth Development Authority (CDA) from 2003-2005; Northern Mariana Housing Authority (NMHC) from 2003-2005; and the Northern Marianas Insurance Association (NMIA) from 2004-2006.
Secretary Igisomar has extensive experiences in both the private and government sectors. He has over nineteen years (19) years of experience leading teams of various sizes in different industries to accomplish objectives of the organizations he served. These experiences are in the areas of public administration, utilities, insurance, education and health industries, which has provided him with a wealth of knowledge and the ability to adapt to diverse leadership roles.
